This weight loss competition will be based on a points system. The contestant with the most points at the end of the 60 day DASH will be the 1st place winner! There will be a second and third place winner that is also based on the 2 and 3rd highest amount of points earned. In the case of a tie the person with the highest percentage of weight loss will take the top spot. We will have 1 initial weigh in at the start of the competition and only one other final weigh in that must be done by March 10th. Again this is only for the purpose of a tie for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.

1st place will be given a GRAND cash prize

2nd place and 3rd place will be given cash prizes and gifts

Each contestant will be given a DASH card to track their points once they have paid the buy in fee.

The DASH card will have weekly requirements. If the requirements are met they will receive a stamp for each task completed. There will be bonus points offered through out the contest. Bonus points can be earned from team challenges that will be performed every 3 weeks (each person on the winning team will earn an extra 2 points for that challenge). Referring a friend that joins DASH will also be a way to earn extra points. Adding nutrition guidance and committing for the 60 days will be an additional way to earn points. DASH card requirements consist of....

a DASH of Power (Obsidian)

a DASH of Fierce (BODYCOMBAT)

a DASH of Energy (BODYSTEP)

a DASH of Strong (BODYPUMP)

a DASH of Pretty (BODYVIVE, Yoga, Mind-Body Barre)

a DASH of Fun (Zumba)

All contestants that enter the 60 day DASH will be divided into 4 teams. You will be given a colored bracelet to represent the team that you are on.

Determination= Black

Attitude=Purple

Strength=Silver

Heart=Red

Each team will be led by a DASH instructor that will help guide you and keep you committed for the full 60 days! This is a great way to kick off 2011 and making it the best year yet!

The journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise states that individuals are more likely to lose weight and keep it off if they exercise (a combination of strength training and cardio) for at least 250 minutes per week. We will help you get all 250 minutes in and more each week!

Everyone deserves to start 2011 with a DASH of health and happiness!!!

Essential Fatty Acids....

Make sure you get the adequate amount of

omega-3 fatty acids each day (250 milligrams or more).

84,000 deaths a year are contributed to not getting enough of this nutrient.

Essential fatty acids help prevent heart disease, which is the number one killer of women in America.

"Tis the SEASONing....

Spice up your holiday cooking with these spices instead of limiting yourself to sweet treats like pumpkin pie, gingerbread, and eggnog! These spices can add flavor with out adding extra salt, fat, or sugar and as a bonus they each have their own health benefits!
Ginger

Ginger can help reduce inflammation that causes muscle pain and arthritis.

USE IT: Cut sweet potatoes lengthwise and cover the flesh with ground ginger, then bake as usual

Cinnamon

Cinnamon enhances the natural sweetness of foods, so you can cut back on sugar while still satisfying your sweet tooth. It may also help control blood sugar levels.

USE IT: Toss some nuts with a bit of oil, sea salt, and cinnamon and back for 10 minutes for a delicious snack. Also sprinkle over baked apples and peaches for a fruit side dish.

Nutmeg

Another natural accompaniment to both salty and sweet dishes, it tastes like cinnamon with a touch of nuttiness. Compounds in nutmeg boosts mood
USE IT: melt a touch of butter,m add some nutmeg, and then saute spinach in it.

Holiday Obsidian Challenge......

Did you know...
.
The average American gains 1-2 lbs during the next 3 holiday months. That weight accumulates and never comes off according to the New England Journal of Medicine. What's worse? If you are already overweight you are more likely to gain 5lbs during the holiday and yes that's weight that will stay with you for a lifetime. Most midlife weight gain can be explained by holiday eating!
We have a great group of people who have committed to not only avoid the holiday weight gain but get a jump start on their New Year's resolution and take the Holiday Obsidian Challenge! They will endure 12 weeks of intense training with weely weigh ins and measurements to keep them on their toes through the next 3 months.

FYI.....

"According to a study at Colorado State University, our daily sugar intake is 189 grams - about 47 teaspoons - hidden or not so hidden in cereals, sodas, cookies and other foods. Before the Industrial Revolution, daily sugar consumption was less than 15 grams." An eating plan that restricts sugar intake to 15 grams a day while allowing six servings of carbohydrates (about 120 grams) creates a balance which keeps the body's insulin levels low, which leads to a thinner waist. - Tim Talevich and Jorge Cruise.
